OUR MISSION

Ani Shlishi is a nonprofit organization based in Israel, that uses second-hand clothing stores as a medium of providing opportunities of self-advancement to Israel’s youth at risk.

Ani Shlishi’s store operates much like an alternative school, serving youth whose needs have not been addressed by the public education system.

Hiring at-risk youth as salespeople, Ani Shlishi guides participants through a process of experiential learning and skill acquisition involving retail sales and management, leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving. After working at the store, participants earn the opportunity to learn a trade, funded in full through sales from our stores.

Our vision is to build Ani Shlishi's alumni into confident, capable, and contributing members of society.

Building Skills

During our program participants are provided with:

  • Valuable, marketable workplace and leadership skills

  • Mentorship and guidance on handling finances

  • Increased responsibility as our participants take on

    management duties

Building Self Esteem

We facilitate successful integration into normative frameworks by:

  • Creating an environment of encouragement and accountability

  • Allowing autonomy within established guidelines

  • Developing purpose and practical skills

  • Providing positive role models

  • Creating a strong sense of community

  • Each Ani Shlishi program participant spends six months in the store at full salary, receiving hands-on experience in sales and customer service

Building Futures

At the end of their cohort each participant earns a graduate scholarship that may be used as an investment in their self-advancement:
• A certificate course

• A low risk investment fund
• Starting a business
• Working towards a degree

Graduates are provided with seminars outlining:

  • Where and how to find jobs

  • Interview etiquette

"This place is my second home."
